sara_gilbert_live: How did you find that out!
Yahoomc: Really?
sara_gilbert_live: No.
ImpCelyn asks: What was it like, doing an episode of 'The Simpsons?' How does that whole thing work? Do you read the script first?
sara_gilbert_live: Yeah you sit around the table and read the script with a whole lot of actors.
sara_gilbert_live: And you never really see it till later. They draw it later.
sara_gilbert_live: You record all of it before it's drawn - then they send it to Japan to draw it.
stard2000 asks: Who do you play in this movie?
Yahoomc: Talking about Light It Up...
sara_gilbert_live: I play Lynn, the pregnant punker reject teenager.
sara_gilbert_live: It was kind of tough playing her because it was freezing cold in Chicago in the winter
sara_gilbert_live: but it was fun player her. Shooting was just hard.
sara_gilbert_live: playing her, not player
AfricanAmericanQueenNee asks: Mrs. Gilbert , What's next for you , more drama films , I've seen Light it up and its an excellent film "Well
Written"!!
sara_gilbert_live: I did a movie called High Fidelity
sara_gilbert_live: from the book
sara_gilbert_live: and another movie called The Big Tease.
sara_gilbert_live: One's a romantic comedy, the other is a mockumentary.
klove_1976 asks: How did you hear about "Light It up"? And what attracted you to the part?
sara_gilbert_live: It was submitted to my agent.
sara_gilbert_live: The writer/director had been thinking about me for a while
sara_gilbert_live: so they sent me the script
sara_gilbert_live: And I wanted to work with Fox and BabyFace and Forrest Whitaker so I accepted.
lewis_35 asks: Did you enjoy working with Forest Whitaker?
sara_gilbert_live: Yes, he's a genius.
sara_gilbert_live: He's such a good actor. He's so consistent.
sara_gilbert_live: and he's really sincere with his acting.
sara_gilbert_live: And he's nothing like his character so it's amazing to see him break out of it and just be a regular guy.
jancanyon asks: I just read an article about you in US. Do you think that your education at Yale helped with acting?
sara_gilbert_live: Maybe it gives you more experience.
sara_gilbert_live: And as an artist it's important to have as much experience as you can to connect to as many emotions as you can.
sara_gilbert_live: But I think that acting makes you good at acting.
sara_gilbert_live: And good directors.
klove_1976 asks: HOw long have you been acting? Is it something that runs in the family? Did you feel pressured to become an actress since your
sister is one?
sara_gilbert_live: I've been acting since I was six.
sara_gilbert_live: I acted for a few years and took a few years off.
sara_gilbert_live: My sister acted and my grandfather was a comedy writer.
sara_gilbert_live: My brother was an actor.
sara_gilbert_live: I didn't feel any pressure to act, I just wanted to.
sara_gilbert_live: I'm an attention whore.
DUBHEAD1 asks: Sarah...you used to come to Sun Valley a lot. How come we don't see you anymore? I remember you were on the local bus system
one night and forgot your smokes.
sara_gilbert_live: I used to go there with my Mom.
sara_gilbert_live: I should go back there. It's so beautiful too.
sara_gilbert_live: I quit smoking too.
sara_gilbert_live: (And so should my friend Amy!)
xaiah asks: We've all enjoyed watching you grow up on TV and film. Are you ready to make the transition to playing more adult characters? Your
young looks may be a bit of a hinderance, but your acting skills will surely allow for stronger and mature roles.
sara_gilbert_live: It can be a hindrance because I do look young.
sara_gilbert_live: But i'm totally ready to play older parts.
sara_gilbert_live: In TV I have a choice whether I play older roles.
sara_gilbert_live: Where in film I don't have that choice, because I have to audition while in television I have a sort of power.
sara_gilbert_live: To choose
sara_gilbert_live: Even though it probably won't make it on the air!
plastik9_1999 asks: Sara, I loved you on Roseanne, can we expect any future television projects from you?
sara_gilbert_live: Yeah, I think I want to do another show.
hansonbabe_2000 asks: Do you want to do any other work besides acting like, directing or producing a film?
sara_gilbert_live: I'd like to direct.
sara_gilbert_live: For me - I love film.
sara_gilbert_live: I love photography.
sara_gilbert_live: I love the medium.
sara_gilbert_live: I love acting,
sara_gilbert_live: and I love being in charge.
sara_gilbert_live: So it's the perfect balance of those.
sonshineflower asks: Have you ever been Pressured to do anything that you didn't want to do ?
sara_gilbert_live: Anything that I mention would be too incriminating . ..
peppermintp_29150 asks: What did you learn from being out of the spotlight for a while?
sara_gilbert_live: I found my identity, separate from that world.
dursco asks: i felt like i identified with darlene. did you enjoy the character that she was?
sara_gilbert_live: Yes, very much so.
sara_gilbert_live: I liked that she was tough, but soft underneath.
sara_gilbert_live: I always liked that combination.
stard2000 asks: Do you ever play any characters that aren't dark and brooding?
sara_gilbert_live: Yeah - these upcoming characters are not
sara_gilbert_live: Thank god.
Yahoomc: Do you worry about being typecast?
sara_gilbert_live: I don't worry about being typecast. I just have to be patient I think.
ImpCelyn asks: Why did you do 'Poison Ivy?' Did you not read the script first? Or did you do the movie as a dare?
Fri Nov 12 17:15:00 1999
sara_gilbert_live: I read the script and thought it was actually alright.
sara_gilbert_live: But it's kind of a cult classic and it's cool to be in something like that.
nauners.rm asks: sara how do you feel about light it up?
sara_gilbert_live: It's always hard to see yourself on screen.
sara_gilbert_live: I've only seen it once, but I'm happy about it.
sara_gilbert_live: I think it has a lot of stuff to say that's important.
samasap69 asks: Do you feel that things have changed in America's schools since you were in high school?

sara_gilbert_live: Maybe.

very insensitive. How did you handle this. Do you resent the fact that you were forced to grow up under the public eye?
sara_gilbert_live: No because I wasn't forced.
sara_gilbert_live: I was dying to be in the public eye.
sara_gilbert_live: More so than I even am now.
sara_gilbert_live: I think that the media only has as much power as you give them.
sara_gilbert_live: For me, I try to detach from negative press and not let it effect me.
sara_gilbert_live: It's hard, but you get to a place where you can just kind of let it go.
sugardoll28 asks: I LOVE YOUR HAIR
sara_gilbert_live: I ended up being allergic to the hair dye we were using in the movie.
sara_gilbert_live: So you can see it fade out during the movie and get bright again at the end when I redyed it.
sara_gilbert_live: It had citric acid which I know I'm allergic too, but I'm a little crazy and just convinced myself that I was allergic.

sara_gilbert_live: But I have to push through and do it anyway.

prestigious universities to accept you. Do you have any advice, details, or., tips.. besides the fact of aiming high and studying hard?
sara_gilbert_live: Make your application a little bit different
sara_gilbert_live: When writing the essays, I tried not to worry about what they were looking for, and let them speak from who I really was.
